Glenrowan

Glenrowan is Ned Kelly country. Here, he used to live, drink and cause mayhem. Mostly the mayhem. He was a sort of Robin Hood figure who stole from the rich and, well, stole from the poor. Just, in fact, the sort of murderous pikey who had what was coming to him. Apart from the armour, it's not really clear as to why he became famous and all the other murderous pikeys around here didn't. Still, there's a Big Thing here - two, in fact - so I wasn't about to drive straight past.

The whole town is Ned Kelly everything. Here's the museum.

A mock-up of Ned Kelly's house. If he had spent as much time doing the place up as he did nicking other people's cows, this might have looked a whole lot different.

Most of the action centred around Ned and his gang's capture. They gallantly raided the pub, gallantly holding 70 townsfolk as hostages, and had a gallant shoot-out with the cops - while gallantly wearing armour. There are signs around the town to tell you what happened where.

Kelly's capture site. Allegedly, of course. People tend to claim all sorts of stuff after this sort of event so it's difficult to find out what really happened.
