Greece - Corinth

Corinth is a grotty small city that lies on the bit of land that connects the Peloponnese peninsula to the rest of Greece. Old Corinth, however, is far from grotty. This is where the alleged St Paul allegedly did a lot of converting before getting what was coming to him and the site has a long history of different people - Greeks, Romans, etc. All in all, well worth dropping in for a couple of hours to look at some old funny-shaped rocks.

A temple. How to make a temple? Get a big rock and cut off all the bits that don't look like a temple.

That's better - a proper templey-looking temple. With the grotty one in foreground

The bottom-bits of statues all ready for their heads.

More of a relief than a statue. A beardy bloke in a nice dress.

Roman-style status, these. Couldn't keep his willy away though, could he.

A mosaic. They used to make these before lino.

Standing here just sucks.

Did I mention that I might have had a few beers the night before?

I was standing next to an irritating Septic school-teachery type when I took this as she was explaining the difference in styles. I didn't think that my suggestion that it didn't really matter what they look like as long as they hold the ceiling up was not given the consideration it deserved.

Maccas. This was a row of shops. Next door was Virgin Records and the other side was a bicycle shop - the latter proving that idiots are not a modern invention.

A better look at what's left of the nice temple. This was good old Apollo's - who seems to get about a bit.

This pile of rubble was the main part of town. There are workshops, eateries and temples all over the place.

The baths where the locals go to steam up and oil down. A bit like Darlinghurst but with fewer transvestites.
