Egypt - Alexandria

A few hours up the road on a bus is Alexandria, right on the Med.

Cos it's a beach resort, we get a very nice beach hotel.

Across the bay is this fort, which has a bit of history itself (even the Brits have taken a shot at it). More importantly, though, it's on the site of the old wonder of the world, the Lighthouse of Alexandria.

Pleanty of gods if that's your thing.

The town itself is a lot tidier than Cairo.

The new library - a very impressive building indeed. They are also building a huge repository of texts - go have a look here.

The planetarium.

Now an older part of town. This is in a park surrounding a couple of the old palaces.

They are now open to the public after the revolution (coup, actually).

One of the palaces.

This guy is looking after the place - and would probably rather be anywhere else.
