Craig's Cottage

OK, we got to Mansfield - which, by the way, is a lovely town - with the sole intention of going up to Craig's Hut.

Craig's Hut, I hear you ask. Well, this was built as a high-country horseman's home for the movie, "The Man from Snowy River'. Yes, it was originally a movie-set but has since been rebuilt a couple of times and is well worth the trip. Kim has always wanted to go up to see it and it was supposed to be a nice drive with a bit of walking.

Sooo, we asked around Mansfield for directions and, it turns out, we were a couple of weeks early because all the roads were closed and, not only could we not drive up, nor could any of the guides. Bugger. Kim's lower lip all of a quiver.

What would James Bond do? Jet-pack, perhaps? Sky-dive from the International Space Station. Well, there's always this...

So now you get a blog full of Craig's Cottage AND a helicopter. Woot.

The car would Wait Another Day - or something.

And there she is. This really is stunning country.

Little flypast in the chopper (I can say chopper because I am now a helicopter expert).

The machine and our pilot - who was absolutely great, BTW.

This is the third incarnation of the cottage. The first was knocked down before it fell down (it was just thrown up by the film company). The second was built by the local 4x4 club and caught fire. This one has survived - with less wood on the roof!

The landscape is breathtaking.

Here are some ghost-gums which like it up here.

And this is us near it.

On it.

And next to it.

And by a helicopter near it.

There's a bit of snow on the way back.

That's it. The helicopter goes to bed for the night.

This trip, helicopter and all, is an absolute must.
