Having landed a contract in Perth, there reamins the question of how to get there. Two words; Road Trip...
Planning was failry straight-forward - we have 8 days to get there:
- Use Google Earth, Sydney Morning Herald Travel and WhereIs to find stops roughly 500 Km apart
- Seek advice from family, friends and random people in the pub regarding trip logistics.
While the first proved invaluable, the latter was less helpful. Advice included the use of a 4-wheel drive truck with roo-bars incorporating a military satellite communications network, optional catepillar tracks and forward mounted machine guns. This was to be loaded with 400 litres of water, 50 drums of spare fuel and antivenom for the world's deadliest snakes (including some found only in the Northern hemisphere).
We chose a dayglow-orange Mazda 2 (with that funny little fin at the back whose purpose is completely unknown), 15l of water (in case the radiator blows up), the dog's bed, a Visa card and some diet coke.
Sorted.
Well, not quite. There's no point doing a road trip in Australia unless you get to see as many Big Things as possible.
OK, now we're sorted.
